Jon C. Heaton
Jon Heaton's legal practice primarily involves real property law, general property law, aviation law and the negotiation and resolution of disputes. Mr. Heaton always attempts to settle and resolve legal issues prior to litigation or arbitration. Much of his practice has been devoted to ski-related clients. He has served as general counsel for Marker International and its subsidiaries, a manufacturer of ski bindings, ski clothing and accessories. He has represented Park City Ski Area in real estate activities and was formerly the attorney for the United States Ski Team.
Mr. Heaton entered Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1969, after spending six years as a Tactical Air Command pilot in the United States Air Force. In 1972 he graduated from Vanderbilt Law School with a J.D. degree, earning added distinction as a member of the Order of the Coif. Earlier (in 1964) he had received a B.S. degree in accounting, with honors, from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.
At Prince Yeates, Mr. Heaton maintains close contacts with clients in Park City and Salt Lake City, where he represents developers of commercial and residential real estate. He has structured more than 70 condominium and planned unit development projects and has provided legal expertise for several subdivisions and for undivided interest resort real estate projects.
Mr. Heaton is a member of the Utah State Bar and American Bar Associations and is a member of the State of Utah Board of Architects. He has been a partner and shareholder of Prince Yeates since 1976. Periodically, Mr. Heaton serves as a judge in the small claims courts of the state of Utah on a pro bono basis.
Mr. Heaton is an avid flyer, piloting multi-engine commercial aircraft, and has over 7,000 hours of worldwide flying experience. In the military he was instrumental in providing for large-scale joint training and readiness experiences on a national basis. He was promoted to brigadier general in the Air Force and was the commander of the Utah Air National Guard for eight years.
With a wealth of governmental and general business experience from the managerial, consulting and legal perspectives, Mr. Heaton makes a unique contribution to the business organizations he serves and to the emerging development projects and strategies of his clients.
